He has come amongst you albeit you are unaware
He lies, he robs, he wounds beyond your imagination
Untold deceit, the pickings, and scars are left in his wake
Behind a trail of heartache, grief and isolation
He could be the passer-by in the street or your colleague
Standing on the terraces as you cheer your team on to win
You’ll never know it’s him for he clothes himself in gold
As if butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth and sin far from his soul
Do not trust him as he lures you on for he is far from honest
He will break your heart as surely as he would your bank
With a grin on his face, he treads the path between the cracks
Then, as he drops a silver star, he knows his game is up
When finally caught, he declares, “not I, not I, not I”
“For no wrong have I done my friend or neighbour”
But the disgrace on his face is the undoing of him
And he is no longer able; though he never was a free man.

Writing my memoirs, musings, a little fiction and a lot of poetry as a way of exploring and making the most of my life ...
... Having had a break from writing my blog for more than three years, I decided to return to write my memoirs, some day-to-day observations, views and feelings. My passion is non-fiction poetry. I have a disability and use an electric powerchair called Alfie and let nothing get in the way of living life to the full.
I believe that you can never do a kindness too soon and should give credit where credit is due. A smile or a kind word could make the difference between a good or bad day for a person - we never know what's going on for another soul. Those little things, perhaps, practised daily like a mantra, could mean so much to someone else.
Thank you for visiting my blog and reading a little more about me. Please, make yourself at home here. You are very welcome. Ellie x 😊

This is wonderful piece Ellie – so rich in imagery and words woven to create such an atmosphere – dark and untrustworthy as it may be – but well written 🙂
I think these lines – they struck me as being so brilliant – dazzling –
You’ll never know it’s him for he clothes himself in gold / As if butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth and sin far from his soul.
Really amazing images!
You should post more creative writing Ellie – you are talented my friend 😀
Thank you so much, Mj for your praise and encouragement (blush). As you know, I really do value your opinion as a brilliant author of so much experience and talent. It honestly means a lot to me, my friend. I would have never given myself this credit for this piece so am truly ‘gobsmacked’ (as they say in the East End of London apparently). Hugs Mj, Ellie xxx 😀
Looking around and over shoulder??!
Are you referring to me?
ahem … brilliant author of so much experience and talent ….
Sorry, you have me confused with someone else.
I just do the best I can – which is all – which means I produce just as much “garbage” as the next person – but hey, when you kick your own ego out of the way, it’s easier to digest.
And on that note, when the ego has been booted, I can say, thank you for the generous compliment – because ultimately, we all wish to be read – to connect in some way – and to have some one comment and say that it affected them – resonated – in whatever way. So, yeah, thank you.
As for your writing – as I’ve said, this was an amazing piece – loved it – and you really should let yourself “go” more often. Besides, aren’t you – yes you – published?? Ahem…..
Hugs Ellie XXX 🙂
Ahem…??? Ma’am, I contest the fact that you produce ‘garbage’…..indeed, you well deserve to be complimented on your talent…. 😉 As for letting myself ‘go’, I can only write the words in my head when they are there but believe me, there are many times when my head is pretty vacant! 😀 Many Hugs Mj, Ellie xxx 🙂
Well once again, thank you for the most generous comment – but need I say this? Clearly, I must – not all of what you see is as easy it is appears – some of it is worked, re-worked, trashed, left to wither in drafts etc.
As for your mind being empty of vacant – we all have moments like that – so no worries. But if you are seeking a way, providing you have the time, you can always choose to play with some of the prompts – they are fun – and there is such a wealth of them available on the net – with such a great diversity in response – so, you know, there are ways to “jump start” the brain, from time to time 😉
hugs back Ellie xxx
